5 for 5 - W7 Recap

Well 2-3 is better than the previous 1-4, but still not good, as season record remains around 45% (15-18-2).

Let's recap last week.

Summary

1. Ari +1.5 (Den) - Loss (45-10 Den)

2. Buf +7.5 (@ Ind) - Loss (37-5 Ind)

3. Min -3 (@ NYJ) - Win (37-17 Min)

4. SF +9.5 (LAR) - Loss (39-10 LAR)

5. NYG +5.5 (@ Atl) - Win (23-20 Atl)

1. Ari +1.5 (Den) - Loss (45-10 Den)

Ari's offense is a mess. I thought a Thursday home game against a bad road team would be able to solve it, but no luck. Den's D played well with two pick-6s in the first quarter (yup, first quarter!) and Ari fired their OC the following morning. Also, why in the world is David Johnson not being used nearly 35 times a game?!?!

2. Buf +7.5 (@ Ind) - Loss (37-5 Ind)

There has been one factor that can split Buf into being blown out and being in the game (even potentially winning): Josh Allen. He hasn't put up great stats and I can even point to turnover luck (like in the Min game) but when he has played, Buf is in the game. When it has been Peterman or Anderson... it's been a blowout.

3. Min -3 (@ NYJ) - Win (37-17 Min)

The 20-point win looks worse than maybe it should have been. Total yards were close 316 (Min) to 263 (NYJ) and the score was only 10-7 Min at half. I expected Min to grind down NYJ with their D, and it was a defensive struggle with punts all over the drive summary, but turnovers were the story of this one. Min may have still pulled it out but NYJ were -4 TO differential with 3 picks and 1 fumble (they actually had 5 fumbles but only lost 1).

NYJ seem to be in these games, and I wouldn't call them good as they have caught teams in bad scheduling spots, but they certainly aren't terrible.

4. SF +9.5 (LAR) - Loss (39-10 LAR)

Third road game in a row? Nonsense! The LAR rolled. SF's offense did well against GB but no luck in this game, but similarly to the previous game we discussed, turnovers were the underlying story. I have no doubt LAR could have still cruised but it certainly doesn't help SF's efforts when these are their first half drives: fumble, punt, fumble, safety, interception, TD. Those results in short fields for LAR, who conversely had these opening half drive results: punt, FG, punt, TD, FG, TD, end half. With 60 yards being the longest TD drive and the other 3 scoring drives being 20-40 yards.

5. NYG +5.5 (@ Atl) - Win (23-20 Atl)

Poor clock management sunk NYG in the end, and even though Atl won anyone who had them in suicide was sweating. We had expected that whoever got the lead in this game would not be able to hold it, and while 43 total points is lower than expected (52 was Ov/Un), it did work out that way with Atl getting the lead and NYG storming right back. Atl's D injuries seem to balance with NYG's offensive problems. I don't trust either team much, thankfully this one worked as expected.
